Sidcup Storyhouse are currently looking for a General Manager to take charge of their brand-new venue.

About us: Really Local Group creates and restores cultural infrastructure through the regeneration and renewal of the UK’s high streets, with cinema at the heart of its venues. Each venue is uniquely designed to reflect its locality – we engage with local arts clubs and community groups to facilitate their activities by providing them with a much needed ‘home’. 

Found in the creative south-east London hub of Sidcup, our brand-new venue will feature a fully functional 3-screen cinema, bar, café, workspace, and event room.

About the job: We are currently looking for a passionate leader to take charge of our brand-new venue! You will take a pro-active approach and know how to get the most out of your team through consistent training and development, setting a clear direction for the venue and listening to guest feedback, building it into your overall vision for the space. 

Working closely with our central team, you will ensure guests to the venue have an excellent experience and receive the highest level of customer service. Along with our programme and marketing manager, you will oversee in-house events and help to curate an exciting programme throughout the year. Our ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and be passionate in developing the venue into a thriving, cultural hub for the whole community to enjoy. 

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Venue management 

  • Act as the main key holder for the site and ensure all opening and closing duties are being carried out correctly. 
  • Be at the forefront of local outreach, engaging and collaborating with groups across Sidcup’s creative community. 
  • Work closely with our central team to deliver an exciting range of screenings and events throughout the year. 
  • Working with our F&B team to develop our menu’s to give guests the best choices in food and drink. 
  • Ensure all health and safety, HR, security and financial procedures are being upheld. 
  • Implement and manage emergency procedures, taking responsibility for the safety of both staff and guests. 
  • Oversee all aspects of stock management ie. Ordering, accepting deliveries, inputting wastage and performing weekly stock takes. 
  • Manage and implement weekly cinema projection tasks i.e. Scheduling projectors, DCP storage / delivery and inhouse projector maintenance. 
  • Organise regular team training and meetings. 
  • Uphold and implement any licensing, legislative and business requirements that must be adhered to. 
  • Organise cleaning schedules and ensure all staff / the venue look presentable. 

Team Management 

  • Oversee the performance of the venue’s management and staff. 
  • Be responsible for the training of staff in all current policies and procedure and mentor their development. 
  • Build your team through a successful and thorough recruitment process. 
  • Lead your team to achieve improved business performance through upselling, venue promotion and guest satisfaction. 
  • Through the rota, ensure staffing levels are consistent with levels of business and manage where appropriate. 
  • Promote a positive working environment for all staff on shift. 

Customer Service 

  • Build and implement a programme of outstanding customer service from top to bottom. 
  • Provide guidance and assist with any customer enquiries / feedback. 
  • Be present in the venue during key business times to manage and improve customer’s experience. 
  • To have a thorough knowledge of all products and memberships on offer. 
  • Be up to date with any films currently on release as well as any upcoming events, promotions etc. 
  • Actively participate in the venue’s programming and work with special events / marketing teams. 

As well as your main responsibilities you will be expected to carry out any tasks pertaining to the successful operation of the venue as reasonably required. 

What we’re looking for: 

  • 2+ years’ experience in cinema management or similar hospitality role. 
  • 2+ years’ in senior management position. 
  • Ability to handle high pressure situations. 
  • Experience in organising and execution of live events. 
  • Experience in developing operational processes and implementing procedure. 
  • Great organisation and time management skills. 
  • Great numeracy and literacy skills. 
  • Confident communicator with customers and staff. 
  • Personable and welcoming. 
  • Flexible and approachable working attitude. 
  • IT proficient. 
  • Able to work at key business hours (evenings, weekends, bank holidays etc). 
  • A genuine passion for film, live events and community led spaces. 

Desirable: 

  • Personal license holder. 
  • Private hire and event experience. 
  • Digital projection experience. 
  • Food Hygiene Level 2.
