Freelance Programme Advisor (Experimenta)
BFI
London
Salary: Paid (fixed fee)
The BFI Festivals team is seeking a new Programme Advisor to join our team of freelance advisors.
With a specialism in Artists’ Moving Image work, this role will be key in developing the programme of the Experimenta strand for the 63rd BFI London Film Festival, 2-13 October 2019.
As the UK’s primary showcase for single channel work from UK and international artists, Experimenta combines feature, mid-length and short films by artists and filmmakers, in cinema screenings alongside Q&A sessions and discussion events.
We are seeking a new voice for the curatorial team who will work collaboratively with other Experimenta advisors, reporting to the Senior Film Programmer, and working to the vision of the Artistic Director, to deliver a programme of films that differentiate the BFI in terms of quality, uniqueness and relevance to global dialogue and debate around the moving image.
The successful candidate will be a programmer/curator who has worked in a film festival, gallery, or independent programming capacity, and has developed knowledge and networks within artists’ moving image practice and contemporary cinema.
Confident in researching and tracking potential films, and viewing work in a deadline driven environment, the role would suit an active communicator, who enjoys contextualising and sharing work with a wide public, including key festival audiences (such as 16-30 year olds), and communities of emerging artists.
In keeping with the BFI London Film Festival’s diverse film programme, and with an acknowledgement of the imbalances in representation in the film industry, we strongly encourage applications from all sectors of society to accurately reflect the local and wider demographic, and especially from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates, and those who consider themselves to be disabled. Under the BFI’s guaranteed interview scheme applicants who self-identify as BAME and/or disabled and demonstrate that they meet the minimum requirements will be invited to interview.
For more details including how to apply, browse BFI opportunities.
First interviews will be held on Monday 13 May 2019.
