Freelance Marketing Officer, BFI FAN Places Fund

Film Hub Wales

Salary: £190 per day

Film Hub Wales is seeking a Freelance Marketing Officer to support its BFI FAN Places Fund pilot programme.

The BFI FAN Places Fund is a pilot programme designed to increase public engagement with independent cinema venues, using National Lottery funding to help them become more visible and accessible to their local communities.

Film Hub Wales has been selected as one of three locations across the UK to undertake this innovative marketing-led initiative and is looking for an experienced Marketing Officer to work with three venues (Gwyn Hall, Taliesin Arts Centre and Awen Cultural Trust) and the Project Manager on the delivery of the project, to identify creative marketing approaches. They will lead on the delivery of activities in each location.

The ideal candidate

We’re looking for someone with a strong track record in marketing and audience communications, ideally in a cultural context, who understands the challenges and opportunities of cinema and / or arts-based venue marketing. The successful candidate will care about the preservation of independent cinema spaces for future generations.

This is not a project about making films, but about championing the venues that screen them, and your experience should reflect this. We are ideally looking for someone who has worked with cinemas, multi-arts centres or festivals to deliver marketing-centred audience projects.

You must be a confident communicator, meaning you aren’t afraid to talk to new people, to start or challenge a conversation but also to listen to, respect and respond to the needs of our partners and the communities they work with. You should be able to pick out key stories and enjoy finding ways to engage with community audiences.

You must bring both practical marketing and project administration skills to the role, meaning a keen eye for detail and design. An understanding of the principles of outreach / word of mouth marketing will be helpful. Working with a small team, you must be comfortable managing your time remotely. Support is available from Film Hub Wales but you should have confidence in your own ability to solve problems and organise your workload.

Key details

  • Fee: £190 per day (the Officer will be responsible for their own payments of Tax and NI)
  • Contract: Maximum of 125 days (approximately 2.5 days per week between September 2024 – July 2025)
  • Location: Remote, though applicants must be based in South Wales within reasonable travelling distance of Swansea, Bridgend and Neath, as travel to the partner venues is required. Office space is available in Chapter, Cardiff.
