Native Spirit Film Festival

Remote

Salary: Unpaid

Native Spirit Film Festival is looking for pre-selectors to review submissions by international Indigenous filmmakers

Native Spirit Festival promotes Indigenous-produced cinema media and arts and Indigenous languages with year-round events and an annual film festival in Britain (October/November), and Taiwan (December).

About the role

Film reviewers will watch and rate private screeners via FilmFreeway.com/Native Spirit, specifically:

  1. Give star rating
  2. Write commentary
  3. Select “Pass / Recommend / Award worthy / Maybe?”

Speakers of Indigenous languages including Welsh, Irish, Scottish and Manx are likely to relate to revitalisation of languages impacted by colonisation and featured in many films.

Ratings by reviewers will contribute towards final selections. All types of cinematic styles are invited with following durations: microIndigenous (up to 5min); shorts (5-20min); features (20-90min). The majority of submissions are shorts.

You will be listed as film reviewer on FilmFreeway/NativeSpirit, invited to attend in-person events and given a pass to the online festival.

The festival is a project of Native Spirit Foundation, founded in 2005 by a Mapuche activist filmmaker and leader, with one objective being to create video, radio and television “for the other culture to know us without losing our identities.”

Key details

  • Hours: One hour per week (minimum total commitment 8 hours)
