Directors UK are looking for a Copywriter and Digital Content Manager to join their busy communications team.

Directors UK is the professional association of UK screen directors. It is a membership organisation representing the creative, economic and contractual interests of over 8,000 members – the majority of working TV and film directors in the UK. Directors UK negotiates rights deals and collects and distributes royalties to its members. It also campaigns and lobbies on its members’ behalf and provides a range of services including legal advice, events and career development. Directors UK works closely with fellow organisations around the world to represent directors’ rights and concerns, promotes excellence in the craft of direction and champions change to the current landscape to create an equal opportunity industry for all.

Job role and duties

We are looking for a Copywriter and Digital Content Manager to join Directors UK’s busy communications team. Reporting into the Communications and Public Relations Manager, the role involves creating content for Directors UK’s digital communications channels to increase member engagement and raise external stakeholder awareness of Directors UK services and activities.  The role includes creating content for our website, member newsletters and social media; ensuring we have an informative, vibrant website and social media presence, promoting and supporting membership activities, campaigns and external communications.

Key Responsibilities include the following: 

•   Work with the communications team to support all major organisational activity with appropriate digital communications.

•   Create timely communications to promote member services, events and campaigns activity.

•    Create engaging, relevant content for the website and weekly newsletter, including writing and editing news pieces,  responding to everyday events and promoting Directors UK initiatives, and conducting/editing interviews.

•  Deliver effective and frequent communications that encourage and builds a strong community of members.

•  Publish website and newsletter content using the content management systems and other multimedia software. Maintain appropriate processes for housekeeping content.

•  Manage the timely creation and delivery of podcasts as part of our screenings and awards season Q&A events, including liaising with our external audio editor to suggest edits and ensure these are turned around in a timely manner, with appropriate approvals from contributors.

•   Support the creation of other audio-visual content as required.

•  Work with the Communications and Public Relations Manager and Communications Assistant to create content and maintain our presence on Directors UK’s social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc) in line with the brand and organisational objectives. Ensure senior staff are kept aware of comments and feedback from members.

•   Provide communications and social media support at events, including attending events as required.

•  Ensure all communications have a consistency of style and tone and reflect and support the integrity of the Directors UK brand.

•  Monitor industry news and researching director-focused stories to identify new content ideas.

•  Work with the Communications and Public Relations Manager to plan and manage the work of the Communications and Digital Assistant.

General 

•  Build strong relationships with other teams across Directors UK.

•  Offer editing and copywriting support to the communications and member services teams.

•  Support the Communications and Public Relations Manager on specific projects and campaigns.

•  Support the Director of Communications and Public Affairs on public affairs and communications related activity.

Personal specification

Essential Skills and Experience 

•  Proven experience of creating written content and communications materials

•  Ability to write a range of creative content for newsletter, websites and social media

•  Experience of creating content to deadlines

•  Good instincts and ability to edit

•  Website content management systems (CMS) experience

•  Knowledge of digital and social media

• An interest in and knowledge of the film and television industry/creative sector

•  Friendly, positive and team-driven approach with a ‘can do’ attitude

•  Ability to work well under pressure, in a team and independently

•  Good organisational skills, able to prioritise multiple delivery deadlines

•  Attention to detail

•  Excellent written and verbal communication skills

•  Good relationship management skills

•  Good research skills

•  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook

Desirable Skills and Experience 

•  Experience of creating audio-visual content, e.g. podcasts, video content

•  Experience of working in a membership organisation

Key Terms of Employment

Reporting to Communications and Public Relations Manager

Salary £33,000 pa – pro rata

Hours: 9.30am – 5.30pm (with occasional evening and weekend work)

Work Days  Monday – Friday

Location Directors UK office at 4th Floor, 22 Stukeley Street, London WC2B 5LR and home working

Contract Full Time, 8-month fixed contract to cover paternity leave, starting end June/early July 2023- February 2024

Holidays 25 days per year plus all public and bank holidays  (pro rata)
