The BFI is seeking two Collection Audit Assistants to join their Knowledge, Collections & Learning department.

About the role

We are seeking two Collection Audit Assistants to join the BFI’s Knowledge, Collections & Learning department. This role is part of the Audit to Access project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of a wider Collections Review undertaken by the BFI. This role will provide collections management support across the audit project, including specific responsibilities for audit activities. You will be based in the Special Collection team and will be working to capture data around the paper archive, which could include filmmaker’s papers, scripts, posters, and designs. The aim of this project is to enhance the knowledge of and access to the paper collections through the development of a baseline inventory of the collection.

The work will be store-based and candidates must be capable of working for long periods of time in a cold environment, as well as working alone, and lifting and carrying boxes.

You will be responsible for delivering the audit alongside another Collections Audit Assistant.

Fixed Term Contract: from 8 January until 30 November 2025  

Key responsibilities include:
  • To develop inventory level data of the collection.
  • Labelling, barcoding, and photography of archive containers in store.
  • Working with colleagues to maintain and develop barcoding and location procedures.
  • Liaising with Special Collections archivists to investigate queries around collections data and documentation.
We are looking for candidates who have:
  • Knowledge and experience of working with an archive, library or museum collection.
  • Knowledge and experience of using a collections management database.
  • A demonstrable interest in collections management and care.
  • Be able to demonstrate attention to collections care policies.
