The British Film Institute (BFI) National Archive is looking for a skilled Researcher to join its Collections Operations team at the Conservation Centre in Berkhamsted.
In this role, you will undertake in-depth and targeted research and analysis to strengthen our response and throughput across multiple Archive Access channels. Your work will directly support income generation as well as audience reach and engagement through commercial, educational, and cultural reuse of collections. This position will be able to contribute to a range of Knowledge, Learning and Collections led initiatives which will advance the BFI’s 2033 Screen Heritage Strategy to become the “world’s most open archive”.

Role responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Operations and Archive Access teams to conduct proactive research, evaluate incoming proposals, and deliver targeted results, support, and analysis as required.
- Execute tasks that align with our EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) priorities and commitment to the work to decolonise collections.
- Assist in the review and implementation of customer relationship management tools, as well as evaluate sales, audience engagement, and performance metrics.
Role requirements:
- Knowledge in film, cinema history, and/or cultural studies within the library information and archival domain, with demonstrable proficiency equivalent to a degree level.
- Significant prior experience utilising Information or Science Information Management skillsets in a professional context.
- Knowledge of database structures and the software used for cataloguing and indexing both analogue and digital collections.
- Understanding of minimum (film and tv) cataloguing and metadata standards and schema for describing assets and facilitating their discovery and retrieval
