The Department of Anthropology at UCL is looking for a full-time Administrative Officer to programme and lead the Open City Docs School short courses and support the growth of the centre through public engagement and widening participation events.

About us

The Department of Anthropology at UCL is a research-led department with an international reputation, offering innovative teaching programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. There are over 120 staff in the department, many of whom are academics and researchers conducting fieldwork around the world as well as teaching our many students.

This role sits within the Professional Services team in the Centre for Public Anthropology at UCL East, which sits within the wider Professional Services team of the Anthropology Department. The Centre for Public Anthropology is home to several projects in the world of documentary and aims to nurture the next generation of filmmakers, audio producers and VR filmmakers through postgraduate degree programmes, an annual film festival, the bi-annual Non-Fiction journal and other events throughout the year.

The role will specialise in coordinating and managing a programme of short courses linked to the Open City Docs School and will provide general administrative support to the Public Anthropology team as required.

Please note this role requires out of hours working on average 2 days per week and occasional weekends.

About the role

We are looking for a full-time Administrative Officer to manage the short courses, events and external engagement for Public Anthropology based at our new office at UCL East in Stratford. They will program and lead the Open City Docs School short courses and support the growth of the centre through public engagement and widening participation events.

This role leads on all administrative matters for the short courses from scoping new opportunities, recruiting participants, working closely with external partners and tutors on delivery and ensuring the smooth running and efficient management of the programme of short courses. The post-holder will ensure that the short courses are run in line with UCL financial policies and procedures as well as offering advice to staff on such matters.

In addition, they will provide general administrative support to the Public Anthropology section of the Department, with a particular focus on the coordination of events and public engagement activities as directed by the Administration and Operations Manager.

About you

This role would particularly suit someone with an interest in and knowledge of current film, television and creative media industries and trends. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with experience of coordinating events, working to budgets and navigating established financial policies and procedures.

They will have a strong customer focus and the ability to provide an efficient, professional and effective service to multiple stakeholders, which might in this context be industry professionals and academics. They will be expected to demonstrate high standards of customer service, with a helpful and proactive attitude. They will also be able to work under pressure prioritising competing workloads while working to tight deadlines.
