Salary: £17,500 - 19,500 depending on experience
The Northern Light is a fully independent cinema tucked away in the Derbyshire Dales in a small working town called Wirksworth – the Gem of the Peak.
The cinema opened in 2012 as a private venture between the owners Paul & Esther Carr. It has a single screen and a capacity of just 52 with a mixture of standard seats, armchair and sofas, broadcasting a wide range of film titles and live screenings.
They have a strong community ethos, employing staff from the locality where possible and have a wide team of willing and able volunteers.
The Cinema Manager’s task will be to maintain strong community links whilst developing a programme suitable to the audience, providing a great experience for everyone who walks through the door – and that includes all staff.
This is a great opportunity for someone to develop an in-depth knowledge of the cinema industry on a manageable scale.
You’ll be responsible for every aspect of the business, from team management and HR to advertising, sales and budget control. You’ll be a team leader, a business planner, a marketing executive and film programmer all rolled into one. Essentially, you’ll be running the joint. And of course you’ll get the chance to watch a whole lot of films.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Programming, licensing and promoting films
- Hiring, training and managing staff
- Dealing with the public, handling complaints and customer enquiries
- Managing the website content and social media strands
- Managing and maintaining the projector
