Norwegian Eskil Vogt maybe better known for penning Joachim Trier’s Oslo, August 31st, but Blind, his first foray into writing/directing has firmly launched him in the director’s chair and with multiple festivals wins under his belt, Vogt should be sitting comfortably.

Ellen Dorrit Peterson plays Ingrid, a married Norwegian woman who has lost her sight and prefers to stay at home with her memories and thoughts.

Yet her real problems lie inside her and not within the four walls of her home; we watch as her deepest anxieties and repressed sexual fantasies take over. Vogt deftly manages to suggest what the world of a blind person must be like – with all its daily challenges – and also how it affects the inner life of a 30-something woman who is married and was planning to have children.

Shot by Dogtooth and Attenberg DP Thimios Bakatakis, the film is a richly textured fantastical exploration of one woman’s search inside.
