Not sure that you’re making the best use of your brochure, website, or e-mail list to develop audiences for your film programme? Want to explore the resources available to support your film marketing activity, but unsure where to start?

The Independent Cinema Office presents an essential one-day course for all independent film exhibitors based in the West Midlands who are keen to maximize the success of their film marketing strategy but are working with limited money and resources. The course will include presentations and case studies, as well as group exercises which will analyse your current marketing activity and identify ways in which it could be improved. You will learn foolproof strategies first-hand from film distributors and other experts in the field of marketing and audience development for independent cinema.

  • How do you forge good relationships with film distributors and PR agents?
  • What resources can you access to make your job easier?
  • How do you target and reach specific audiences?

Course Tutor: Rebekah Polding

After successfully completing a PhD in Cultural History at the University of Cambridge, Rebekah Polding joined the independent exhibition company City Screen in 1999. Rebekah's successful work in audience development, which combined programming, event management and marketing activity, led to the creation of her senior post as City Screen’s Head of Communications, working company-wide to deliver the company's core strategy: bringing more people to see a broader range of films. Rebekah has also been part of the Cambridge Film Festival team since its re-launch by City Screen in 2001. Her particular responsibilities include editorship and production of the Festival brochure and management of all programme information. She also works as a freelance host for Q&As, as a film journalist, and as a professional production manager.
