A Moving Image Education Training Day For Exhibitors In The Screen South Region

Would you like to develop educational activity at your venue, festival or film society - but are you struggling to know where to start? The Independent Cinema Office presents an essential one-day training course for all film exhibitors in the Screen South region who are keen to explore and maximise the educational opportunities open to them, whilst working with limited staff and resources.
You will learn effective strategies first-hand from film education officers and other experts who have years of experience in the field of moving image education and events. The course will be suitable for all independent exhibitors, including: venues with or without education officers; established and emerging film festivals; mixed arts venues; film societies; touring initiatives; and arts development officers.
The course will cover the following areas:
- How can you integrate educational opportunities into your film programme?
- How do you devise a venue specific event or education programme that addresses local needs?
- What local, regional and national partnerships can you develop to support your delivery of an education programme?
- How do you find – and hold on to – locally-based teachers, workshop providers, tutors, speakers, and resource writers?
- What information and resources are available from other organisations?
- How do you produce resources such as teachers’ packs?
- What legal and operational issues do you need to be aware of?
- How do you evaluate the success of your project?
- What funding possibilities are out there?

Course Tutor: Corinna Downing
Corinna has over 15 years experience of programming and organising moving image education events. She has co-ordinated children’s cinema clubs and education workshops at many venues including the National Film Theatre, the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley, the Electric Cinema in Notting Hill, the Design Museum, and the Young Vic Theatre. As a freelance Education Officer at bfi Education and the Museum of the Moving Image Corinna developed moving image education projects with primary schools, as well as leading INSET training for teachers. Corinna was Education Co-ordinator at the London Film Festival for 5 years until 2005, which involved programming about 40 education events for schools and colleges. Currently her main role is Producer of the London Children’s Film Festival which comprises of 70 films and more than 80 education events for children, families and young people.
