Creating a Successful Touring Film Programme

An essential half-day training course for exhibitors wishing to tour films including: independent cinemas, arts centres as well as established and emerging film festivals.

The course is aimed at exhibitors who wish to expand the remit of existing or new programmes and raise their organisation's profile to a national level. Whether you have previous experience or not, the course will cover all you need to know to launch a successful tour.

You will learn foolproof strategies first-hand from a recognised expert currently working in the field — and have the opportunity to network with experienced practitioners from established venues.

Venue: The Script Factory, 66/67 Wells Street, London W1 (5 minutes from Oxford Circus tube)

Date and Time: Wednesday 10 January 2007, 2 – 5pm

Cost:
£50 + VAT (£58.75) per person
£30 + VAT (£35.25) for ICO clients.
Cost includes teas and coffees; lunch is not included but refreshments are available nearby.

The course will cover the following areas:

  • Sourcing films.
  • Negotiating national and international rights clearances.
  • Securing cinema bookings nationwide.
  • Administrating film transport.
  • Writing effective copy and press releases.
  • Marketing your programme to cinemas, audiences and the press.
  • Identifying key journalists to cost effectively reach your widest possible audience.
  • Creating maximum impact from minimum resources.

There will also be opportunities for analysis of your own touring proposals.

Course Tutor: Catharine Des Forges

Catharine is the Director of the ICO. She has over a decade's experience programming independent cinemas, tours and festivals with local, national and international profiles including Brief Encounters and the East End Film Festival among others. She was also responsible for the National Film Theatre's Touring Programmes from 1999–2003. She is currently an Artistic Director for the London Children's Film Festival.
