Date: Thursday 15th January 2009

Times: 10.30am – 4.45pm, followed by networking drinks (registration from 9.45am)

This unique event has been designed especially for programmers, managers and administrators from independent cinemas from all over the UK who want to maximize the potential of their digital screen to strengthen their programme, broaden their audience and become more sustainable. It will also be of interest to distributors, screen agencies and local authority arts development officers.

Questions to be addressed will include:

  • What impact is digital cinema having on specialised film releases and programming?
  • What is the Virtual Print Fee deal and how will it affect me?
  • How does the technology work and what are the plans for its future development?
  • What initiatives related to digital screens can help my cinema reach new audiences?
  • What are industry plans for future digital cinema roll–out and how do I not get left behind?

The day will include presentations from key players in the digital roll-out, a panel discussion between exhibitors and distributors, plus peer dialogue and networking on a national scale. An online forum will facilitate further discussion, ideas-sharing and the initiation of partnerships in the months following the course.

Speakers will include:

  • Peter Buckingham, Head of Distribution and Exhibition, UK Film Council
  • Colin Burch, Managing Director, Verve Pictures
  • Mark Cosgrove, Head of Programme, and Madeleine Probst, Programme Development Coordinator, Watershed Media Centre
  • Gemma Richardson, Head of Marketing and Communications, Arts Alliance Media
  • David Sin, Director, Independent Cinema Office
  • Alan Alderson-Smith, Programmer, Phoenix Arts
