Archive Programming Day
Would you like to show more archive films but not sure how?
Have your audiences requested local interest films but you're not sure how to source them?
What's the best way of promoting archive material?
In 2003/4 there were 523 public screenings of material drawn from eight regional film archives, with an average attendance of 54 admissions. Since then, each edition of the BBC Mitchell & Kenyon series has attracted 4.5 million viewers; and the MACE/NFTVA Midlands Journey touring programme has attracted sell-out houses at cinemas across the Midlands .
This event, brought to you by the bfi working in partnership with the ICO, is for industry professionals who have an interest in developing audiences for archive programming. It will showcase new acquisitions and material available from the NFTVA and regional archives as well as address the basic practical, technical and creative issues around the public theatrical exhibition of archive material.
The advent of the Digital Screen Network provides a further platform for the presentation of archive based programming to new audiences. There is more than ever an opportunity to showcase archival work and the viewing figures for Mitchell & Kenyon, consistently large audiences for archive events at regional venues and high rates of use for archive based websites are all evidence of the growing public interest in this work.
