Following the success of the first Mediatheque tour, Bombs at Teatime , Before Midnight features highlights from the BFI National Archive's extensive collection of films shot in India prior to Independence. The programme offers an extraordinary and rarely seen glimpse of life in British India. This living history includes newsreels, short documentaries and home movies, many of which have not been seen in public before. Here's life in towns and villages from the Northwest Frontier to Lahore to the cities of Rajasthan to Darjeeling whilst the Raj are seen at both work and play. The programme includes extracts from some remarkable Technicolor shorts shot by Jack Cardiff, the Academy Award-winning cinematographer of Black Narcissus.

This screening will include a 50 min selection of material that will be included in the tour.
