Nominated for the 2004 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, Twin Sisters is an epic love story based on the Dutch bestseller by Tessa de Loo. Lotte and Anna are twin sisters living in 1920s Germany . When their parents die, the six-year-olds are separated by their family. Lotte is taken in by loving Dutch cousins, while Anna is sent to the pig farm with her brutal relatives. For years, each sister believes her twin might be dead. Finally, they meet when Europe is on the brink of World War II, and their lives have taken very different routes. Anna is a maid for a stupid, rich countess and married to an Austrian officer, while the elegant musician Lotte is engaged to a Jewish boy. With excellent performances and very big emotions, Twin Sisters is a film guaranteed to tug at the heartstrings.
"Twin Sisters has the engrossing quality of a big historical novel."
