These days, we're most familiar with truckers when the price of fuel goes up and inevitably, the haulage industry grinds to a halt and organises protest blockades. Which makes Cy Endfield's dynamic drama seem all the more unlikely, but with a star turn from Stanley Baker at its heart, you'll soon succumb to the hardboiled thrills to be found in Hell Drivers. Baker is the ex-con looking to go straight as a new driver for a truck company, but can't resist the competition to complete as many runs as possible in one day. Breathtaking camerawork cuts through the oil and dirt to capture the insanity/absurdity of driving a truck full of gravel at breakneck speed. The UK locations, in Brentford and Buckinghamshire, have never looked so exciting nor as gritty.
