Scott Ryan’s no-budget début follows charismatic, yet volatile, hitman Ray Shoesmith around Melbourne. Fuelled by offbeat conversation, dark humour and emotional crises this is Reservoir Dogs meets Chopper.

The Magician is truly menacing, at times cheeky and still in the end, surprisingly conscientious. Definitely one not to be missed!
